To plan a midterm day on My BodyClock, enter Edit Mode, drag Sleep onto the 24-hour circle first, then add classes, two or three study blocks, meals and a walk around it. Drag each block’s black circles in or out to change its length, then tap the checkmark to save. Eight categories color-code the day.
Key takeaways
- Edit Mode opens two ways, per the Owaves FAQ: tap the pencil icon in the top right, or double-tap the space around the circle.
- You add activities by dragging the round Activity Icons onto the circle, and change a block’s length by dragging its black circles in or out.
- Tap the checkmark in the top right to save; the Owaves FAQ also covers editing a saved Day Plan and repeating it on other days.
- Plan sleep first: the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends adults sleep 7 or more hours a night on a regular basis.
- The example day below fits eight categories (Sleep, Move, Eat, Work, Flow, Play, Relax, Love) into 24 hours with a fixed wake time of 7 AM.
How do I plan a day on My BodyClock?
You plan a day by entering Edit Mode, dragging Activity Icons onto the circle, sizing each block and saving. My BodyClock shows all 24 hours as one circle, which the App Store listing describes as a 360° circular view of your day meant to counter time blindness. Here are the steps, as the Owaves FAQ describes them:
- Enter Edit Mode. Tap the pencil icon in the top right, or double-tap the space around the circle.
- Drag in an Activity Icon. The icons are round buttons, one per activity. Press and hold one, then drag it onto the circle where you want it.
- Set its length. A new activity defaults to one hour, or to the time up to the next activity. Drag one of its black circles in or out to change the length.
- Save. Tap the checkmark in the top right to save your changes.
Owaves sorts activities into eight categories: Sleep, Move, Eat, Work, Flow, Play, Relax and Love. Each has its own color, so a glance at the circle tells you how the day is balanced. Button positions can shift between app versions, so if a screen looks different, the Owaves FAQ is the reference. For a longer walkthrough with examples, see Plan Your Ideal Day with Owaves.
What should I place first when planning a midterm day?
Place Sleep first, then build everything else around it. A fixed sleep block makes the rest of the day easier to size. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that adults sleep 7 or more hours per night on a regular basis, so a 7 AM wake time means a bedtime no later than midnight, and 11 PM leaves room to spare.
Regularity matters as well as length. In a 2017 Scientific Reports study that followed 61 undergraduates for 30 days, the most regular sleepers averaged a 3.72 GPA against 3.42 for the most irregular, on similar hours of sleep. That is an association in a small sample, not proof that a steady schedule raises grades, but it is a reason to make the Sleep block the same time each day. Our own tip, not a tested protocol: set it once and copy it across the week.
What does a full midterm day look like?
A workable midterm day has a steady wake time, time outdoors early, two or three study blocks with breaks between them, and a wind-down before bed. The example below uses categories the way the app’s color-coding intends, and every block is something you can drag onto the circle in the steps above.
| Time | Block | Category |
|---|---|---|
| 11 PM — 7 AM | Sleep | Sleep |
| 7 — 7:45 AM | Morning walk outdoors | Move |
| 7:45 — 8:30 AM | Breakfast | Eat |
| 8:30 AM — 12 PM | Classes | Work |
| 12 — 1 PM | Lunch away from the desk | Eat |
| 1 — 3 PM | First study block: hardest subject | Work |
| 3 — 3:30 PM | Errands and admin | Flow |
| 3:30 — 4:30 PM | Workout | Move |
| 4:30 — 6 PM | Second study block: switch subjects | Work |
| 6 — 7 PM | Dinner | Eat |
| 7 — 8:30 PM | Retrieval review: quiz yourself from memory | Work |
| 8:30 — 9:30 PM | Time with friends | Play |
| 9:30 — 10:30 PM | Call family or a friend | Love |
| 10:30 — 11 PM | Wind-down: reading, lights low | Relax |
Planning is a personal rhythm, not a prescription. Your class times will differ, and the blocks above are an example we built, not a protocol from a study. If you want a student-specific walkthrough of the same idea, read Time Blocking for Student Productivity and Health.
How do I keep the same plan from day to day?
Save the day as a Day Plan and repeat it. The Owaves FAQ covers how to edit a saved Day Plan (open the profile icon, then Day Plans, choose the plan, tap the pencil icon, make your changes, tap the checkmark and then Save) and how to repeat a saved Day Plan. Unlimited Day Plans for each day of the week are listed on the App Store as part of the paid BodyClock Plus subscription, so check the listing for what the free version includes.
If you use Apple Health, the App Store listing says you can connect it to compare planned and actual activities, a handy check after a late study night. Curious about your own timing? The Body Clock Type quiz shows which of five types you are: Morning Glory, Sunflower, Hibiscus, Peace Lily or Moonflower.
Your day on My BodyClock

The day above on My BodyClock is built around one fixed point: Sleep from 11 PM to 7 AM. A 7 AM walk gets you outdoors early, in morning light when the season allows, two study blocks hold the hardest work in the afternoon with a workout between them, and a retrieval review after dinner replaces a late cram. Every block fits one of the eight categories, so the circle shows the balance at a glance: work is well covered, and so are Move, Eat, Play, Love and Relax. Build it in Owaves: My BodyClock on the App Store or join the Android waitlist. For more on mapping meals and caffeine onto the same circle, see Caffeine Cutoff Time: When to Have Your Last Coffee.
