What gets you out of bed every morning?
My baby girl… and coffee! I am an early to rise kind of person. I live for the mornings. I love to get up, get my coffee, check the news, snuggle with my baby girl, start on some work, and finalize my plan for the day.
What is the most important part of your daily routine?
Trying to plan a balanced dinner with my family. This signals a nice end to the day for me. When dinner begins, I try to stop all work, and focus on a healthy dinner, a more relaxing time with my husband, and let myself unwind.
What is your #1 wellness habit?
Always eat at least one fruit and one vegetable every day (if not, more of course!) even if it is dried fruit, or a hidden vegetable (like in a soup or smoothie). Even while traveling or out of my typical routine, I work to make this happen.
What is the best piece of health advice you’ve ever received?
No TV in the bedroom. This helps me achieve an excellent sleep, and gives me more quality time with my family. I prioritize sleep over many other health tasks because of how powerful and restorative it is for the body.
What is your favorite part of living a healthy lifestyle?
I feel healthier, more energized, and overall, more alive. I have less digestive discomforts when I live and eat healthy as well. I honestly cannot function very well when I do not live healthily. I start to get brain fog, fatigue, cranky, anxious, and sluggish (I also have Hashimoto’s). When I am at my best, I can also be healthy and happy for my friends, clients, and family!
Describe your sleep ritual. What time do you go to bed?
I go to sleep early since I still have a little baby! I start sleep preparations around 7:30 pm when I get a protein or healthy fat snack. I either make a protein mug cake, or a bowl of cereal (made from garbanzo beans) with unsweetened flaked coconut and flax milk. I eat that while I watch a little Netflix. Then, around 8:30, I start to get ready to get into bed, answer last minute emails, and then read or chat with my husband. I am asleep by 9:15 or 9:30 pm.
Tell us about a time you were stuck in an unhealthy cycle and how you got out of it. What was the main inspiration for positive change?
Finding time to exercise when I have a baby and tasks to take care of. I schedule exercise into my day, and do not cancel it unless I can reschedule it. I recently started going to a mom workout class where you can bring your baby. This saves me time since I can workout with my baby in tow, and it makes me happy to talk with other moms and be committed to something.
