Sanya Sekhar, Singaporean yoga instructor and devout vegan, shares with us her routine, favorite wellness habits, and motto for staying healthy and happy.
Personal Motto: Your vibe attracts your tribe.
Favorite Vegetable: Spinach
Favorite Book: The Bible
Favorite Exercise: Yoga
Favorite Way to Center: Spirituality
What gets you out of bed every morning?
The urge to make the day count.
What’s the most important part of your daily routine?
Practicing yoga in the mornings.
Why do you design your day the way you do?
Practicing yoga in the morning is a tedious task because your body is rather stiff and its hard to perform asanas. Bringing your awareness to your body as you slowly warm up is a form of introspection which keeps you alert to your senses for the rest of the day.
Whose O Would You Most Like to See? Why?
I would love to see Mahatma Ghandi’s O, because he preached Ahimsa, which implies an entire abstinence from causing any pain or harm to any living creature, either by thought, word or deed. This is a philosophy I practice and live by.
What is your #1 wellness habit?
Clean eating.
What is the best piece of health advice you’ve ever received?
Go vegan.
What is your favorite part about living a healthy lifestyle?
A healthy lifestyle nourishes you physically, emotionally and spiritually, keeping you positive and energetic through all of life’s challenges.
Describe your sleep ritual. What time do you go to bed? Do you do anything special to prepare?
I go to sleep by 11 pm at the latest on most days. I apply coconut oil to my skin and face as a moisturizer and then head to bed.
If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?
Eat vegan, nonviolence begins on your plate.
