Josh Turknett is an accomplished neurologist and author of The Migraine Miracle. He graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A in Neuroscience and Behavior in 1997. He then went on to complete his M.D from the University of Florida in 2005 and officially became a Board Certified Neurologist in 2006. Along with the accomplishment of his book, Josh also hosts the Intelligence Unshackled podcast, co-hosts the Physicians for Ancestral Health podcast, serves as a consulting neurologist for Nourish Balance Thrive, and is the founder Brainjo and Brainjo Center for Nuerology and Cognitive Enhancement. He’s a big family man, and to relax, he loves playing the five-string banjo and any sport involving a racket.

  • 6:15      AM  Read and coffee

  • 10:30   AM  First meal (salad with meat, scrambled eggs)
  • 11:00    AM  Work and create
  • 2:00      PM  Play tennis
  • 3:30      PM  Learn (whatever new skill, etc. presently working on)
  • 4:30      PM  Eat a second meal
  • 5:30      PM  2nd walk
  • 6:30      PM  Play music/read/spend time with family
  • 10:00    PM  Sleep

What gets you out of bed every morning?

The opportunity to get to work on the problems and ideas, and be with the people I care about.

What is the most important part of your daily routine?

Sleep!

What about your “O” do you think is unique or special?

Dedicating time to learning something new.

What is your #1 wellness habit?

Surrounding myself with curious and thoughtful people.

What is the best piece of health advice you’ve ever received?

Eliminate environmental mismatches.

What is your favorite part of living a healthy lifestyle?

Thinking and feeling better than ever, and knowing I’m affording myself the best chance it’ll stay that way.

Describe your sleep ritual. What time do you go to bed?

After tucking in our kids, my wife and I will usually watch something together, typically for 30min-1h. Turn on a white noise machine. Then read the kindle in bed, and will usually get sleepy within 5-10 min.

What’s your biggest wellness challenge? How do you address it?

Taking time for vacation/play/downtime/”non-productive” activities (in parentheses because this is usually when the best ideas emerge). I address it by scheduling it in advance and building in external accountability.

If you could give one piece of health advice to the next generation, what would it be?

Cook for yourself, eat real food.
