What gets you out of bed every morning?
Just loving my life. To see my children, my husband. My puppy is always happy to see me. Planning our next adventure. I love to hike, I love road trips. Meeting with friends. Other than that, just simple things: morning coffee or tea, dark chocolate, a good book, my yoga practice.
What is the most important part of your daily routine?
Creating healthy meals for me and my family. If I don’t eat well, I’m out of balance. The same applies to physical activity. Yoga practice, hiking, a brisk walk, keeps me happy.
What is your #1 wellness habit?
Getting enough sleep is very important. As this school year started I put it at the top of my priority list. If I sleep enough I accomplish more in less time. I have much more energy throughout the day, and just generally feel happier and have more patience with my kids.
What is the best piece of health advice you’ve ever received?
Drink lots of water. This was the first healthy habit I adopted when I was 19.
What is your favorite part about living a healthy lifestyle?
The benefits I experience. I love my skin, my hair, I’m strong and healthy. The mental benefits are even more important. I just feel much more balanced in general. This is what my children see. They adopt my healthy lifestyle without me forcing it on them. They are 14 and 12 years old. I let them make their own choices, and I’m pleased to see that they make good ones. I’m so proud of them.
Tell us about a time you were stuck in an unhealthy cycle and how you got out of it. What was the main inspiration for positive change?
I grew up as a skinny child. My family always wanted me to eat more. As I became a young adult, I thought I could eat anything I wanted and as much as I wanted without consequences. I started to change when my children were born. First I did it for them, and gradually we broke all the unhealthy habits.
If you could give one piece of health advice, what would it be?
Find somebody who motivates you. If not in real life, social media is perfect for that. On my bad days, when I don’t want to be active at all, I scroll down on my Instagram feed, and I instantly get inspired.
