Dr. Bill Lagakos received a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry and Physiology with a focus on fatty-acid binding proteins and energy metabolism from Rutgers University. He later went on to UCSD to study inflammation and Diabetes. Furthering his education, Bill went onto the Mayo Clinic to study circadian biology. In 2012, Bill wrote his first book,  The poor, misunderstood calorie: calories proper, which explores the misperceptions of calorie counting and how hormones and neuroendocrine response to foods regulate nutrient partitioning.

Breakfast, sunlight, and exercise in the morning.

Work.

Walk outdoors around lunchtime.

What gets you out of bed every morning?

Sunlight, dopamine, cortisol, orexin, and histamine, I think.

What is the most important part of your daily routine?

There are many equally important parts.

What about your “O” do you think is unique or special?

Breakfast, sunlight, and exercise first thing in the morning. An afternoon walk every day.

What is your #1 wellness habit?

Outdoor activity & sleep.

What is your favorite part of living a healthy lifestyle?

Some people feel tired, depressed, or brain fog every day. I don’t.

Describe your sleep ritual. What time do you go to bed?

A couple hours after sunset, blue blockers. A couple of hours after that, bedtime.

If you could give one piece of health advice to the next generation, what would it be?

Play outside. Limit screen time and industrial food.
