Hi, I’m Petra from Switzerland. In my main job I work as a mobile hairdresser. During the lockdown in 2020 I came up with mandala dot painting because I wasn’t allowed to work for 7 weeks. Without this forced break, I would probably never have found access to this beautiful art because I didn’t really consider myself to be creative. But from the first attempt I was captivated by this creative and meditative art. I forget all the everyday worries around me and am completely present in the flow. The patterns and color combinations just arise from me. For over 3 years I have been able to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm for dot painting in courses, which makes me very fulfilled and happy!

Describe your art journey!
It was only 4 years ago that I came to art through the forced break of the lockdown, but I have always had a flair for colors, aesthetics, and harmony. And that’s how I came to mandala dot painting. I love getting involved in the process of creating a mandala. This is pure meditation. I’m able to give many Dot-Painting courses here in Switzerland, which I really love. A year ago I wanted to try new things. Since I’ve finally had my own art studio it offers more space to experiment with new techniques. This is how I came up with the resin-ocean- art technique, which is a flow technique. I create sea and beachscapes. I love the sea and the colors of the sea more than anything and so I really enjoy using this technique to create realistic looking serving trays, clocks, side tables, and pictures. I’m completely new to experimenting with another flow technique, also known as pouring art. However, I always come back to my beloved mandalas. 💖😊 I’m excited to see where my creative journey will take me…I got with the flow. 😊
How do your daily habits affect your creative expression?
I always go through the world with my eyes open. Nature especially inspires me a lot. I often look at flowers and blossoms, they are perfect mandalas. The color combinations in nature and in the animal world always amaze me. I take these impressions with me into my creative work.
How has art impacted the way you structure your day?
Because I can unfortunately only paint in my free time at the moment, the structure is already in place during working hours. But I’m always happy when I can spend as much time as possible on my creative work. For example, I watch less television than I have for a long time. I also try to prioritize what is really important to me and what is good/best for me.
What role does art play in your personal wellness?
Painting mandalas balance me. When I’m tense and stressed, painting calms me down and centers me. When I’m tired or even exhausted, painting gives me new energy, focus, and joy. I always feel happy to spend time in my art studio.
