I’ve have always been passionate about art but started making it seriously five years ago. I participated in a 100 day art challenge on Instagram, where we post new art everyday, and doing this is how I started making digital art. I’m still a painter though, so you will find me in my art studio most days playing with acrylic paint. My art is intuition led, and is usually a thoughtful prodding my feelings, with the very yogi-style goal of opening up and expanding the heart center to let more love and light inside.

Describe your art journey!
I discovered my love for painting only about five years ago. It’s been a journey to learn the ropes of being a professional artist, and there’s still so much to learn! Time spent painting in the studio is only a small part of the working day for artists. There’s a lot more to it than just the creative part, but I love doing it.
How do your daily habits affect your creative expression?
Art journaling first thing in the morning has been instrumental in creating my own personal sense of well being. Morning is a quiet time of the day where I feel I can fully focus on being creative. It is meditative in nature. I’ve figured out by now that if I skip my morning art journaling, I feel off for the rest of the day.
How has art impacted the way you structure your day?
I am a mom of two children, so I have make my art life fit around my home life and their needs. It has gotten easier now that they are a bit older and in school much of the day.
What role does art play in your personal wellness?
Whatever I’m feeling, it comes out in my art. Sometimes I’m surprised by the direction a painting goes. It’s like a mirror, or maybe more like a mood ring. Painting on canvas is like talking to a therapist in that way. It feels good to release what’s inside so you can move on.
What are your favorite creative media and/or subjects?
I use acrylic paint on canvas in my studio, and my iPad for journaling. Although I started out painting realistic landscapes, I quickly discovered that I prefer painting by intuition, so I’m now an abstract artist 100% of the time.
Who or what has been the biggest influence(s) to you as an artist?
My art is influenced by famous abstract artists like Kandinsky, Picasso and the de Koonings, as well as contemporary abstract artists like Albert Oehlen, Daniel Richter and Cecily Brown.
