Day in the Life:
Born and raised in a humble home in Barbados, Robyn Rihanna Fenty went from selling clothes with her father on the streets to becoming an international superstar. With 9 Grammy Awards, a global fashion empire, and a successful acting career, Rihanna is no doubt one of the most influential people of our generation. Not only has she broken 6 Guinness World Records with her music career, she has also launched her own cosmetics and fashion line, Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, created charity foundations, and acted in multiple blockbuster movies.
With new music to record and multiple businesses to tend to, Rihanna surely does “work, work, work!” She has previously shared that on work days, she would get around 4 hours of sleep per night, coming back home from meetings at 1 am just to wake up 4 hours later to hustle. While her drive to work comes from her love for her job, she understands that she is not superhuman. Like anyone else, Rihanna needs time for herself to rest and avoid burnout. She has recently made it a point to prioritize her mental and physical health, understanding the importance of having a good work-life balance to living a fulfilling life.
To focus more on her wellbeing, she started to block days off in her calendar for her personal days off. During this time, Rihanna makes sure to fully disassociate from her work and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. For her, this is a great way to recenter herself and rejuvenate her mental and physical health.
“I’ll shut things down for two days, three days at a time. On my calendar we now have the infamous ‘P,’ which means personal days. This is a new thing.”
Rihanna’s Daily Routine:
- 7AM – Wake Up, Pray
- 8AM – Enjoy a Protein Filled Breakfast
- 9AM – Take a Walk
- 11PM – Indulge in a Carribean Style Curry
- 1PM – Shopping
- 3PM – Dance at the Studio
- 6PM – Eat a Healthy Salad
- 7PM – Spend Time with Friends, Video calls Her Niece
- 10PM – Binge Watch Her Favorite TV show
- 12AM – Sleep
Rihanna’s diet may not be exactly what you would think. While she eats many fruits and vegetables, she does not restrict herself from any foods that she is craving. Rihanna frequently indulges in snacks, even telling Ellen that her tour bus dressing room is often filled with hot Cheetos, Cup of Noodles, Golden Grahams cereal, and Oreo’s.
Many of Rihanna’s favorite dishes are from her Cuban upbringing, with her favorite being curry. She explains what a typical day of eating looks like, excluding snacks:
“I have egg whites and pineapple for breakfast with hot water and lemon. For lunch I have fish and potatoes. I hate vegetables but I make myself eat them. For dinner I have fish again.”
Rihanna explains much of her motivation to workout is so she can eat whatever she is craving, guilt free. She told Vanity Fair “Legit, I have been in the gym every day this week because I am not willing to give up my food. But I will sacrifice an hour for the gym.”
Her workouts are led by her personal trainer, Ary Nunez. To keep her workout’s interesting, Rihanna uses a mix of martial arts, dancing, and calisthenics to stay in shape. She also places a large emphasis on strengthening her abs and doing body weight exercises.
Friends and Family
Rihanna admits she has not always been the best at making time for friends and family, often becoming overwhelmed with her demanding career. She even publicly posted about this on Instagram in November, stating “To all my friends/family/coworkers who I have yet to get back to in the past months…please forgive me. this year has been quite an overwhelming one, and I’m working on that ish called Balance. brb.” She has noted that this year she will place an emphasis on spending time with family, despite the pressures of her music career.
